Healing Through Words

Mum Forgets

– By Christine Murrain

She forgets to be polite

Timid, or shy

She dances in public spaces

For no longer must she lie

Her true form shocks us

As she demands her desires

My mother, “Cynthia” holding her youngest grandchild

Mum forgets to be quiet,

For she boldly inspires

To grieve who she was

Is to miss out on who she is

And without hesitation,

My mum still lives

Mum forgets your name

I pray she forgets her pain

She moves through this world with ease

And lives life despite disease
